Healthcare workers in Bataan town favor booster shot

SAMAL, Bataan – Healthcare workers of the Rural Health Unit here on Tuesday reacted favorably to receiving booster shots against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

This after the Department of Health (DOH) on November 15, said fully vaccinated health workers may now get booster shots against Covid-19 beginning November 17.

Jackielyn Dichoso, Samal RHU Administrative Aide IV, said she has received her second vaccine dose and is willing to receive the booster shot.

“Sa akin kasi bilang healthcare worker at front-liner na humaharap sa mga tao, gusto ko ang booster shot kasi mas malaki ang panlaban namin sa pandemya na kumakalat ngayon. Kumbaga, continuous tayo na magkakaroon ng protekstyon para sa Covid (For me as a healthcare worker and front-liner who attend to people, I want a booster shot for a better defense against the pandemic. In a sense, we have continuous protection against Covid),” Dichoso said in an interview.

Nurse Maria Jessa Aledia said the Department of Health (DOH) has issued guidelines on the administration of booster shots, saying she received her second shot of AstraZeneca last May.

“Kailangan namin mabigyan ng booster shot dahil kami ang unang nae-expose sa mga taong nagpopositive sa Covid-19 kaya mas maganda na may booster shot (We need the booster shot because we are the first one to be exposed to people positive for Covid-19. That is why, it is better to have booster shot),” she said.

Dichoso and Aledia with other health workers were attending to 12 –17 years old undergoing vaccination at the covered court in this town.

Midwife Lolita Poblete said it was alright for her to get the booster shot after receiving her second dose last May.

“Kasi mas maraming shot, mas marami kaming proteksyon sa katawan (Because, more shots mean more protection in our bodies),” said Poblete who was administering measles, rubella and tetanus diphtheria vaccines to children aged six to seven and 12–13 in Barangay Santa Lucia here. (PNA)
