Dgte receives 10T vials of COVID-19 vaccines for elderly

DUMAGUETE CITY, June 5 (PIA) -- Dumaguete City has received about 10,000 vials of COVID-19 vaccines (SINOVAC) yesterday.

These vaccines would be used to vaccinate 5,000 residents, most of them belonging to Priority Group A2 (senior citizens) each for two doses.

After Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo made an urgent and direct appeal to the national government for more vaccines for the capital city of Negros Oriental, the vaccines arrived following day.

Remollo, who is recovering from COVID-19 in a hospital, lauded Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, Sen. Bong Go, and Vaccine Czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., for their prompt and favorable response to the urgent request for more vaccines

The mayor made the direct appeal to the national government considering the increasing cases of COVID-19 and the daily influx of residents from other cities and towns to Dumaguete City for work and essential services.

Dumaguete City has a population of 137,214, and needs to vaccinate the eligible population of 108,624 residents to achieve herd immunity.

The senior citizens in the city alone would number about 23,000 based on registration of the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs.

Prior to the arrival of vaccines from the national government, the Dumaguete City Health Office received a total of 956 vials of vaccines from the Integrated Provincial Health Office in 10 batches since March 22, 2021 to June 1, 2021.

Senior citizens who have registered already must wait for the call from the City Health Office to be notified of their exact schedule and venue of vaccination.

Walk-ins will not be allowed. (jct/PIA7 Negros Oriental with reports from CPIO)
