Pasay taps senior citizens to encourage residents to get COVID-19 jab

CALOOCAN CITY, May 25 (PIA) -- The Pasay City Government has sought the help of its senior citizen to influence other qualified residents to get their COVID-19 vaccine.

The city has asked the aid of the elderly population to encourage residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19 through a short testimonial video for the country to achieve herd immunity.

The city government has so far, vaccinated a total of 12,353 senior citizens from its target of 29,642.

Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano, in a presentation at the Bakuna Benefits segment of George Royeca, Angkas chief transport advocate, said the testimonial video of senior citizens, "will help encourage residents to support the 'Vacc to the Future' vaccination program of the city government."

Mayor Emi said a total of 48, 411 persons received their first dose, and 19, 015 for the second dose, for a total of 67,426.

To achieve herd immunity, she said the city is targeting to inoculate a total of 316,225 persons or about 70 percent of the 451,750 total populations for the city.

Rubiano said the city has 12 vaccination sites, eight public schools, two covered courts, the Cuneta Astrodome, and the city’s Giga vaccination site located at the Galleon SM Mall of Asia, that can accommodate 2,000 persons per day. (PIA NCR)
