PARAÑAQUE CITY, May 6 (PIA) -- Parañaque City has started vaccinating its senior citizens with Sputnik V in order to boost COVID-19 immunity for the priority sector.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Edwin Olivarez said vaccination hours have been scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

"Ito pong Sputnik V, special po ang logistics nito, kasi kailangan po natin dito at least negative 18 degrees centigrade ang storage. Ang City of Parañaque, through our City Health Office ay prepared na prepared sa paghandle nitong Sputnik V," Olivarez said.

For her part, Mariana Zobel de Ayala, associate director of Ayala Corporation, highlighted the strong partnership between the national government and the private sector, particularly in implementing COVID-19 response and mitigation measures.

"Ayala Land has always built its roots in the concept of Bayanihan. With optimism and solidarity, we are comforted that these acts of kindness and cooperation are the small steps we need to take to make big change," Zobel de Ayala said.

The senior citizens were advised to bring their complete requirements including a photocopy of their Office of Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA) ID or any valid ID with an address in Parañaque City together with a photocopy of a medical clearance or certificate.

The National Government earlier procured the first batch of Sputnik V vaccines consisting of 15,000 doses from Russia. These arrived in the country on Saturday, May 1 inside special containers that maintain a negative 18 degrees Celcius temperature.

The vaccines were then distributed to the cities of Manila, Makati, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, and Taguig.

City Administrator Ding Soriano, for his part, confirmed that the city received an initial 3,000 doses of the Russian-made jabs on Sunday, May 2, which the city government dispensed on Tuesday, May 4.

Gamaleya’s Sputnik V is the second government-procured jabs that was delivered to the country following Sinovac’s CoronaVac vaccine.

National Task Force against COVID 19 chief implementer and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. confirmed that some 500,000 doses of Sputnik V will be delivered to the country in May.

"Through this pilot test we are conducting today, we will be able to see and address possible challenges that may arise before we begin to roll out the 485,000 Sputnik V doses that are expected to arrive this week," Galvez said. (PIA NCR)
