Over 48,000 displaced tourism workers in NCR get aid

CALOOCAN CITY, May 24 (PIA) -- Over 48,000 tourism workers in the National Capital Region (NCR) who were displaced by the pandemic have received aid under the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Financial Assistance and Cash for Work Program. 

According to DOT Metro Manila, as of May 12, 2021, a total of 48,050 workers received financial assistance amounting to Php240,250,000.00.

In February of this year, the DOT and DOLE signed Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2021-001, which provides cash-for-work program for displaced workers in the tourism sector.

The circular provides for the financial assistance to displaced workers in DOT-accredited Primary and Secondary Tourism Enterprises, LGU-licensed Primary and Secondary Tourism Enterprises, LGU-Licensed Tourism Support Service Enterprises, Providers, and Association of Providers and registered Community-Based Tourism Organizations, as well as to DOT-Accredited and LGU-Licensed Tour Guides to mitigate the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on workers in the tourism sector.
