MMDA chief supports EDSA Busway Concourse Project

PASIG CITY, May 19 (PIA) –- Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairperson Benhur Abalos expressed his support to the soon-to-rise EDSA Busways Councoruse Project.

Abalos said that he is one with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in providing convenient, fast, and safe commuting experience for the Filipino commuters.

“I wholly support the DOTr, DPWH, and our private sector partners in this EDSA Busway Concourse Project in their continuous efforts in prioritizing our commuters' mobility. With the EDSA Busway Concourse Project, we can provide a more seamless EDSA Busway Project as we make commuting easier, safer, more comfortable, and more inclusive through infrastructures that are PWD-, senior citizens-, and pregnant women-friendly,” said Chair Abalos, during the project’s virtual groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday.

According to the MMDA chief, since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the convenience of the commuting public is one of the government's topmost concerns.

“Complementing the EDSA Carousel, I am sure that the EDSA Busway Concourse will help increase ridership, further promoting our mass transport system that, hopefully, will reduce the volume of traffic in our roads,” he added.

The EDSA Busway system —a joint project of the DOTr, in cooperation with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Metropolitan, MMDA, and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)—started interim operations in June, last year.

MMDA added that the project is designed to allow faster travel time for commuters, provide a comfortable commute for the Filipinos amid the pandemic and improve mobility along EDSA. (MMDA/PIA-NCR)
