DPWH- Biliran bares status of infra projects

NAVAL, Biliran, May 20 (PIA)- Personnel of the Department of Public Works and Highways- Biliran District Engineering Office (DPWH-BDEO), bared the agency's status updates and accomplishments of on-going and upcoming infrastructure projects for the province of Biliran during their appearance as guests to PIA Biliran's 'Pulong-Pulong ng Bayan,' at RadyoNatin-Naval on May 13.

According to Engr. Supremo Victor Sabitsana, of the construction section, the Caray-Caray Bridge has an accomplishment of 50%.

Girders and board piles are already installed, and the target date of completion of Caray-Caray Bridge is on October 11, 2021, he reported.

Sabitsana gave a picture to the program's listeners, that the new Caray-Caray Bridge has four lanes, 17 meters in width, 100 meters in length, and one meter is added to its bridge deck from its previous elevation.

An amount P156, 539, 320.81 was funded for its construction, but later was revised to P172-M due to some adjustments and changes in its design, he added.

Sabitsana further reported that the new Catmon Bridge has an accomplishment of 35% with a target date of completion on September 25, 2021.

He added, the said bridge, has 4 lanes, 17 meters in width, 40 meters in length, and one meter is also added to its bridge deck from its previous elevation.

A total of P124, 935, 148.55 was allocated for the said bridge, but was revised to P131, 721, 107.30 due to some changes in its design, he added.

Both Caray-Caray and Catmon bridges have 50 meters approach on both sides, and it is the DPWH Regional Office that is responsible for its implementation, he clarified.

Sabitsana also stated that some 108 infra projects are for implementation around the province, and 14 are already completed.

He added that these projects are composed of flood control, multi-purpose buildings and road concreting; 69 projects are ongoing, composed of slope protection, road widening and multi-purpose building; 18 projects are for later release, waiting for approval; and seven projects are under modification due to small changes in its plan and stationing.

Engr. Edillie Nedruda of  the planning section, stated that for the year 2022, the fund allocated for the proposed regular projects amounted to P2.245-B.

He also stated that some major projects implemented by the engineering district, are Phase 1 of the Naval Diversion Road, Pawikan- Esperanza Road, while Phase 1 also of the Calumpang- Atipolo Diversion Road, and Naval Public Terminal- Barangay Atipolo Diversion Road will also be started within the year.

He added that the engineering district office  has also projects for implementation under the convergence and support program, which includes construction of access roads to declared tourism destinations and access roads leading to trade industry and economic zones.

There is also a plan to construct a new Biliran bridge, parallel to the existing one. This project is under the DPWH- Central Office but there is no exact location yet as technical people from the DPWH central office are still conducting a feasibility study, he said.

Meanwhile, Engr. Dindo Delis of the maintenance section, added that the office is working double time, to maintain the road and side roads, and this includes the cutting of grasses along the roadside, painting the pavement markings, and cleaning of drainage since rainy season is approaching.
