QUEZON CITY, May 28 (PIA) -- The Department of Transportation (DOTr) joined the global call for policymakers to push for the enactment of low-speed streets as the DOTr’s transformative efforts to make cities safe, healthy, green, and liveable.

Joining during the 6th UN Global Road Safety Week (UNGRSW), 17-23 May 2021, DOTr reminded the public that road safety should not be forgotten amid the pandemic as this has been killing thousands of Filipinos every year.

The UNGRSW pursues to build #StreetsForLife and promotes the campaign for #LOVE30 or setting speed limits at 30 km/h.

DOTr emphasized that road safety will always remain a shared responsibility, and as we travel, we carry with us the power to keep ourselves safe and the other users we share the road with.

United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) reported in December 2020 that the Philippines recorded 35 road crash fatalities per day or an estimated 12,690 annual deaths. (MBP/PIA-IDPD/DOTr).
