DOH-9: COVID19 close contacts must undergo immediate home quarantine

ZAMBOANGA CITY, May 31 (PIA) – Department of Health IX (DOH IX) Medical Officer Dr. Aaron Jess Curay said to avoid further increase of cases or community transmission, reported close contacts must undergo home quarantine immediately.

According to DOH guidelines, close contacts should remain in 14 days quarantine and once they developed any symptoms within the quarantine days, they must report to their Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) for immediate management of cases for faster testing and contract tracing.

“The assessment of a confirmed case should start immediately and the contact tracing should be completed within 48 hours,” said Dr. Curay. DOH encourages residents to be honest and immediately inform BHERTs to mobilize the contact tracing of the barangays.

“We are far from achieving herd immunity, we really need to take extra precautions,” Dr. Curay emphasized and also encourages public and private stakeholders to create mechanisms in giving support to their employees without affecting their work responsibilities.

Moreover, for the residents to know immediate action on their workplace or household, DOH-9 clarifies the difference of quarantine and Isolation.  Quarantine is the restriction of movement and separation from the healthy population within their home but are not manifesting any symptoms while Isolation in facilities are for those experiencing symptoms or suspect cases who need to be isolated from the healthy population.
