DAR-10 holds region-wide knowledge, sharing forum

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, May 22 (PIA) –To further strengthen the coordination of farmers' assistance in Northern Mindanao, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) -10 held a Regional Knowledge Sharing and Marketing forum as part of its “Project ConVERGE” or Convergence on Value Chain Enhancement for Rural Growth and Empowerment program.

Representatives from various provinces in region 10 presented their programs and accomplishments in support of farmer cooperatives within the Agrarian Reform Community Clusters (ARC Clusters) despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Regional Project Coordinator Paul Paulin, the forum is instrumental in  the realignment and coordination of existing value-chain systems within DAR-10’s provincial initiatives.

Launched in 2016, the multi-million project spanning six years aims to develop agribusiness initiatives in the provinces to capacitate rural farmers in increasing their earning capacity through skills and management trainings.

Attended by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-10 and Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry as consulting guests, the provincial and farmer coop representatives were given guidance, leeway for potential partnerships, and networking.

In addition to the presentations, the forum also tackled potential areas of concern in relation to the program’s sustainability and potential areas of growth in current initiatives.

As Project ConVERGE draws to a close this year, the beneficiary-farmers expressed their gratitude for the trainings and assistance they received saying, “Dako kaayo among pasalamat sa Department of Agrarian reform tungod sa dako kaayo niini nga tabang sa project converge sa amoang coop, tungod kay gi capacitate mi nila ug gi link mi nila sa mga providers sa loans (We are very grateful to the Department of Agrarian reform for its tremendous help in the project converge for our coop because they capacitated us and linked us to loan providers),” Mantibugao Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Farmers’ Cooperative Manager, Evangeline Frasco said.
