CALOOCAN CITY, May 19 (PIA)  -- Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Prospero De Vera said the vaccination of students will be discussed in the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) meeting this week.

“There are countries in other parts of the world that are reviewing their policy and thinking of prioritizing the vaccination of the students so that they can go back to their face-to-face classes,” De Vera stated during the CHED press briefing on Tuesday, May 18.

The higher education chairman cites that in some observations in other countries, the mental health of students are getting affected and they’d like students to go out of their homes more frequently. And they see that the possible solution to that is to vaccinate them.

“It will be discussed in the IATF meeting this week if this is a policy that the Philippines would also have,” De Vera said.

CHED cited that they were able to include the whole higher education institution personnel under the B1 priority list which was later moved to A4 prioritization for vaccination program.

“Our argument in the IATF was that we needed to vaccinate the skeletal workforce of HEIs because by July the students would have graduated they would need their grades, transcript of records, and diploma so they take licensure test or look for a job,” De Vera said.

He added that if the skeletal workforce in our higher education are not vaccinated at tat time, they will not be able to issue the credentials of students efficiently since this cannot be done online.

“We thank the IATF for including them under the A4 priority list,” De Vera said.

Meanwhile, the higher education commission celebrates the First National Higher Education Day from May 17 to 21, 2021 with at theme of “PADYAK! Moving Forward, Claiming Victory for Philippine Higher Education”.

“This year we are also claiming victory for Philippine higher education because we have achieved a lot especially under the Duterte administration,” CHED chairperson said.

He added that this is the time to recognize the work of the officials, staff of CHED, CHED regional offices, and the higher education institutions because they are all the partners in all of our programs and projects. (PIA-NCR)
