CHED-9 ensures quality education amidst pandemic

ZAMBOANGA CITY, May 21 (PIA) – In order to sustain the quality of education for students, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)-9 pushes for the continuous learning of all students in achieving higher education.

CHED-9 OIC Regional Director Dr. Rody Garcia stressed “we have to start moving towards achieving higher education and bring quality education to make every graduates employable."

He explained the pandemic affected the Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in the Region. However, the Commission still continued the support through the Bayanihan 2 which they provided Php5,000 subsidy to students who continued their education during the pandemic.

Aside from the cash assistance, they also introduce the flexible learning modalities to guide the HEI’s in handling their classes during the pandemic.

CHED-9 also developed automated system which can accept all queries, application and assistance needed by all stakeholders. Through this system, they can give technical assistance and provide real-time response.

During the celebration of CHED’s 27th Founding Anniversary, they highlighted the Commissions program in healing the environment using bicycle as representation of moving forward with the activity’s theme dubbed as “Padyak: Moving Forward, Claiming Victory for Philippine Higher Education”.

The Commission, in partnership with Department of Environment and Natural Resources, hopes to plant One Million trees in five years as a beginning of their project to heal the environment.

CHED-9 is eyeing to provide better education to all the students and the only way to do this is to keep moving forward, “we cannot stop the clock. Let us not stop what we can do forward and we start it with ourselves,” said Dir. Garcia. (EDT/MLE/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
