BAGUIO CITY, May 18(PIA) -- The province of Apayao will remain under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) until May 23, 2021.
“The Provincial Government of Apayao would like to inform the general public that the Province shall continue to be under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine until 23 May 2021,” an advisory released by the provincial government on Sunday stated.
The Apayao LGU noted that while there were news, reports and other information circulating that Apayao shall be placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) from May 15 to May 31, 2021, Resolution No. 115-A of the National Inter Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases issued on May 13 provides that only the National Capital Region and the provinces of Abra, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna and Cavite are to be placed under GCQ for the specied period.
Provincial Administrator Atty. Ma. Elena Teresa Ravelo explained that the provincial government of Apayao will still be adhering to the most recent National IATF-EID Resolution No. 114-C which was signed on May 9, 2021, placing the provinces of Apayao and Benguet in the Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan in Region 2 under a more stringent MECQ status.
The Provincial Inter Agency Task Force (PIATF) heeded to the recommendation of the National IATF –EID in Resolution 114-C placing the province of Apayao under MECQ, she said. the MECQ recommendation was based on the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the different municipalities that increased the health care utilization rate of the COVID-19 referral hospitals in the province.
She added that despite the stricter and more stringent community quarantine classification imposed in the province, the PIATF welcomes this as this could be a measure to conduct effective management of cases in the different municipalities with the rising cases of the COVID-19
As of May 17, Apayao has recorded a total of 1,048 COVID-19 confirmed cases with 980 recoveries and 61 active cases. There were also seven COVID-19 related deaths.
In the recent report of the DOH-Cordillera,Apayao is under high risk in terms of Hospital Care Utilization Rate with an average occupancy rate of 80 percent. The Conner District Hospital and the Far North General Hospital and Training Center are nearly full in their COVID-19 beds.
In support to Executive Order No. 18 placing Apayao under MECQ and providing omnibus guidelines, Governor Eleanor Bulut -Begtang issued Memorandum Order No. 60 on the additional guidelines particularly on travel requirements and mass gatherings restrictions.
Meanwhile, the public is called on to strictly follow the stricter guidelines and protocols of the MECQ and to adhere to the minimum public health standards to ensure protection against the further spread of the COVID-19 in the province. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
