849K registered in PhilSys ID online portal for Step 1

QUEZON CITY, May 21 (PIA)- The Philippine Statistics Authority announced on 17 May 2021, in their official Facebook page that online registration for the PhilSys ID is now at 849,862 since the pilot launch of Step 1 registration on April 30.

While, nearly 34 million registrants have completed Step 1 through house-to-house registration conducted by Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) data collectors.
PSA continues to develop user-management strategies to improve their website and upgrading its servers to increase user capacity and enhance site performance to accommodate more registrants.
Through the online portal, applicants will simply have to input their personal information, including full name, gender, birth date, blood type, and address. At the same time, the Step 2 registration process will require individuals to personally go to their assigned registration centers to capture biometric information and validate supporting documents.
Around 6.4 million already completed Step 2, which consists of validating supporting documents and capturing biometric information at the registration centers.
The PhilSys aims to give valid proof of identity to every Filipino and foreign resident in the country. With proper proof of identity, it will be easier for our countrymen to access government and private sector services and other transactions that require a valid ID.
According to NEDA Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua, the government targets to register 50 million to 70 million Filipinos this year and looking forward to implementing three use cases for PhilSys in the immediate term: first, ensuring efficient and effective distribution of emergency subsidies; second, strengthening financial inclusion; third, facilitating efficient vaccine distribution for the general population.
