ZamPen sends health workers to augment COVID-19 response in NCR

ZAMBOANGA CITY, April 11 (PIA) - Timely as the entire country celebrated the 79th Day of Valor, some 11 “modern day heroes” willingly offer their services in response to the surging cases in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The response was made after the Department of Health (DOH)-9 posted on social media a call for volunteers open for all medical personnel like doctors, nurses, hospital staffs, medtechs who are employed in the Zamboanga Peninsula (ZamPen) region to be deployed in NCR as human resource augmentation.

“I know people are hesitant. They are afraid to go to NCR especially that the area is the hottest spot of COVID-19 cases. But despite that, we are happy that there are still professionals like you who have the courage and take the challenge to provide assistance,” said DOH-9 Regional Director Joshua Brilliantes

The duration of deployment will be for a minimum of one month and maximum of two months with priority areas in East Avenue Medical Center and Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium (DJNRMHS/Tala) as of DOH posting.

Additional hospitals will be identified depending on the number of volunteers.

Volunteers’ board and lodging will be provided by the receiving hospital, ideally at a hotel near its vicinity.

Salaries and other benefits will be provided by the mother office of the volunteers.

Department Personnel Order shall be provided by the Office of the Chief of Staff once an adequate number of volunteers has been identified from the regions.

“We are also afraid to send our own people but we are all Filipinos and we should help everyone in whatever way we can. Your volunteerism, courage and bravery is commendable. We salute you!” said Dir. Brilliantes

He reminded the health workers to always be mindful of the health protocols they were trained to adhere to keep themselves safe at all times.

Meanwhile, Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar, who joined the send-off ceremony of the health workers at the Zamboanga International Airport, expressed her gratitude to the volunteers, inculding their families.

“You are all heroes and we are proud you!” she said. (NBE/EDT/PIA9-Zamboanga del Norte)
