USAID O2 turns-over laptops to DepEd

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, April 3 (PIA) - USAID Opportunity 2.0 recently turned-over more than 30 laptops to Department of Education (DepEd)-10.  

"The USAID Opportunity 2.0 is committed to deliver the Project Goal of Strengthening second-chance opportunities to vulnerable youth to have better education, employment and livelihood," O2 Youth Development Officer Kotie R. Bax said during a recent turnover ceremony at the DEpEd-10 regional office here.

"The first of the intermediate results is to strengthen capacity of national and local system to deliver second-chance education programs for out-of-school youth (OSY)," she stressed.

USAID Opportunity 2.0 is a program supported by US Agency for International Development that aims to reach out and provide second-chance opportunities to  Filipino OSYs by strengthening existing education and workforce development systems such as alternative learning system (ALS) of DepEd.

"We look forward to working together to help the OSY realize their economic potentials and find their voices as citizens,” Bax explained.

She further encouraged everyone present to take advantage of what USAID Opportunity 2.0 can offer, for they want as many OSYs as possible to benefit.

A total of 37 laptops were given, which are part of infrastructure support of USAID Opportunity 2.0 to their partners such as DepEd.

DepEd-10 Regional Director Arturo B. Bayocot expressed his gratefulness to USAID Opportunity 2.0 for the generosity. He said that the given laptops will be great help in the implementation of Alternative Learning System.

"Education is one of the badly hit sectors by the pandemic," Regional DepEd-10 Director Arturo B. Bayocot said during his acceptance speech. He also talked about the importance of partnership and how it has been an important subject in overcoming the challenges of time.

For his part, regional focal for ALS Ray Butch D. Mahinay said that ALS implementers received a very good blessing from USAID Opportunity 2.0, adding "they have been waiting for the laptops since the prior year, for these laptops will help them further their capability to be good implementers in their own communities. The laptops will be used in crafting educational materials and in the delivery of lessons to ALS students."

Alternative Learning System or DepEd-ALS is a parallel learning system that provides a practical option to the existing formal instruction and dubbed "a second-chance to develop the human capital of OSYs and adults in the country. (IJBD/PIA10)
