Tagum IP youth pushes for cultural literacy and COVID19 educ campaign

DAVAO DEL NORTE, April 23 (PIA) – Tagum City Indigenous People (IP) Youth President, Casey Jay Dansigan, has revealed that cultural literacy and education campaign against COVID19 are the programs currently being implemented by the IP Youth of Tagum.

During the Network Briefing News on April 23, 2021, he said that cultural literacy is taught through the Pag-Indo program.

“Yung pag-indo program na ginawa namin (The Pag-Indo program that we are doing) is to teach the [IP youth] the traditional beliefa of our IP leaders of Tagum City,” he said.

He added that the Pag-Indo program is supported by the Cultural Communities Affairs Division (CCAD) Office of the City Government of Tagum.

Aside from cultural literacy, the IP Youth of Tagum City is also working to boost the IP communities’ confidence and trust in the COVID19 vaccines.

“Sa totoo lang po kadalasan ng mga katutubo natin na mga IPs hindi gustong magpa bakuna (Honestly, most of the IPs don’t want to get vaccinated),” he revealed.

As such, “isusulong po namin ang pagpapabakuna sa pamamagitan ng pag bigay kaalaman sa education campaign kung ano-ano ang benepisyo na makukuha sa ating katawan kapag ang tao ay magpapabakuna (We will push for the vaccination through an education campaign informing the IP youth of the benefits that we can get from being vaccinated),” he said.

As well, he called on the IP youth of Tagum and Davao del Norte to follow the health protocols to avoid the spread of the virus. (Jan Vincent Leuterio/PIA-XI)
