San Joaquin villages condemn CPP-NPA-NDF atrocities

ILOILO CITY, April 14 (PIA) -- Five villages of the municipality of San Joaquin, Iloilo, held three consecutive peace rallies to manifest their condemnation against the Communist Party of the Philippines–New People’s Army–National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

Residents of Barangay Cadluman and Barangay Igdagmay gathered to stage the peace rally on March 30, while residents of Barangay Iglilico held their rally on March 3, said Army's 301st Infantry (Bayanihan) Brigade Civil Military Operations Officer Capt. Hazel Joy Durotan.

On April 1, residents of Barangay Igpayong and Barangay San Mateo likewise had their peace rally, she said.

The activity was anchored on the theme “Peace is the greatest weapon for development.”

The residents, mostly parents, carried with them signboards and banners bearing their sentiments against the CPP-NPA terrorists.

They demand to put an end to the CPP-NPA terrorist’s extortion activities, harassments, threats to the local populace, and recruitment and exploitation of the youth and Indigenous Peoples.

Respective barangay officials led the peace rally in condemning the atrocities of the CPP-NPA.

Durotan said that the activity was highlighted by the signing of a wall of commitment followed by the oath of allegiance to the government, and burning of CPP-NPA-NDF flags.

During the activity, the 61st Infantry (Hunter) Battalion troops distributed the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) leaflets to encourage the remaining CNT members to return to the government fold and live a peaceful life as part of the mainstream society.

Food packs were also distributed to the residents, which was likewise an initiative of the 61IB Community Support Program (CSP) teams.

On the other hand, Brigadier General Marion Sison, the commander of 301st Infantry Brigade, lauded the local populace for standing against the Communist Terrorist Group.

"Coordination, cooperation, and collaboration between the military, other local government agencies, stakeholders and the community indeed promote trust and confidence of the locals. The cooperation’s pave the way for the delivery of basic services to cater the needs of the people,” he said.

Sison added “Sana magtuloy-tuloy na ito upang magbigay daan ang isang tunay na kapayapaan at pag-unlad ng buong Panay.”  (PIA6/With report from CMO-301Bde/Phil. Army)
