PIA promotes Freedom of Information to Isabela City Juanas

ISABELA CITY, Basilan, March 31 (PIA) – The Philippine Information Agency in Basilan oriented women leaders in Isabela City about the Freedom of Information during the Women’s Forum recently that aims to empower them with knowledge on people’s rights to have access to information and the promotion and protection of women’s rights.
Mr. Rene V. Carbayas of the Philippine Information Agency Region IX introduced and explained to the members of Isabela Barangay Ladies Legislators Association (IBLLA) on March 22 and to Women Leaders and heads of offices in Isabela City on March 23, the right of every individual to have access to information, official records, public records and documents and any other relevant documents as well as government research data used as basis for policy development.

Carbayas also emphasized the right of every individual to full public disclosure and transparency in the public service which is also part of the Executive Order No. 02 series of 2016. He also stressed that the Freedom of Information is applicable for all sectors and groups including researchers or journalist, families, Civil Society Organizations and Human Rights Groups, Businesses and Government Agencies including local government units.
Carbayas, meanwhile, stressed that proper procedures in requesting information either online request or manual are very important to ensure that their request will be processed on time. He added that incomplete request will automatically be denied by the system.
He further encouraged all the participants in the three-day forum to help disseminate about the Freedom of Information to their colleagues and to their constituents to help improve public confidence and trust to the government. He said that PIA as attached agency of PCOO will also ensure to do their part in empowering citizens through providing them with timely, relevant and accurate information from the government.

The Isabela City LGU through the City Population Commission in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency conducted the Women’s Forum series as part of the celebration of International Women’s Month with the theme, We Make Change Work for Women.
Under Sec 26 of Magna Carta of Women is about the right to information, which states that access to information regarding policies on women, including programs, projects and funding outlays that affect them, shall be ensured. (RVC/NDR/PIA9-Basilan)
