Metro Manila Police rolls out 'Libreng Sakay' for essential workers amid ECQ

CALOOCAN CITY, April 7 (PIA) -- The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is providing free transportation service to essential workers amid the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine in Metro Manila.

The NCRPO's "Libreng Sakay" program, according to Metro Manila Police chief PMGen. Vicente Danao Jr. is for the benefit of the essential workers greatly affected by the lockdown.

NCRPO patrol cars and trucks are continuously providing free ride within Metro Manila alongside the maximum deployment of personnel within its streets and boundaries.

The transportation service program will continue to roll this week until the last day of the ECQ, the NCRPO said.

With an average of 495 commuters per truck in a day, the NCRPO recorded a total of 11,558 workers ferried from March 31 to April 4, 2021.

The authorized persons outside residence who were ferried were also given bottled water; IEC materials face shields and facemasks for their safety.

According to records, a total of 2,743 trips have been conducted by the joint forces of RCADD, RMFB and five Police Districts.

Social distancing, wearing of facemasks, face shields and the other health and safety protocols were strictly implemented by the assigned police officers during the said trips.

Danao, meanwhile, assured the general public that the NCRPO will help in anyway and everyway possible especially in the midst of pandemic.

"Sa pagharap natin sa pagsubok na ito, sana ay mamayani ang pagtutulungan at balikatan at pagkakaisa. Tulungan nyo po kami sa aming pagpapatupad ng batas at makakaasa rin po kayo nasusuklian namin ito ng Serbisyong TAMA; TApat may tapang at MAlasakit sa bawat isa," he said.

To recall, only private establishements "providing basic necessities and such activities” are allowed to remain open during the quarantine period.

  • Hospitals
  • Medical clinics
  • Financial services
  • Banks
  • Money transfer services
  • Retail and wholesaling
  • Public markets
  • Supermarkets
  • Groceries
  • Convenience stores
  • Food preparation and delivery services
  • Food chains and restaurants (limited to carry-out orders)
  • Water-refilling stations
  • Food delivery services
  • Delivery services of Philippine Postal Corporation
  • Utilities
  • Telecommunications companies
  • Cable and internet service providers
  • Water companies
  • Energy companies
  • Gasoline stations
