Medical workers' vax increased public support in San Carlos City

CAMIGUIN, Mar. 31 (PIA)--"So far naman nung magpabakuna 'yung mga frontliners natin meron naman pong mga constituents natin na nag-signify na rin na magpabakuna."

(So far, when the frontliners were vaccinated, a lot of our constituents have signified to be inoculated)

During the Network Briefing News with Communications Sec. Martin Andanar, March 31, San Carlos, Negros Occidental Mayor Renato “Rene” Gustilo said the inoculation of the medical frontliners including the intensified information dissemination boosted support from their constituents on the government's COVID-19 vaccination program.

He said they are targeting about 1,000 healthcare workers including doctors, nurses, midwives and hospital employees,  to be vaccinated and the local government unit (LGU) have already completed the vaccination of the first batch of workers (about 200-300), who received the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines.

"So far wala pong mga (there are no) adverse reactions. I hope this will encourage our constituents na magpabakuna dahil wala pong (to be vaccinated because there are no) adverse reactions," Gustilo added.

In attaining the herd immunity, the LGU together with the City Health doctors targets to have 75-80 percent of the population to be inoculated.

As for containing the spread of the virus, Gustilo said they are among the first LGUs that have established a quarantine facility. At first, San Carlos City made use of public schools as isolation facilities "but we believe that we could not keep on relying dahil baka gamitin ng DepEd ang schools (because DepEd might use the schools)," the mayor said.

Now they have fully operational isolation and quarantine facilities to handle both symptomatic and asymptomatic cases. The locally stranded individuals (LSIs) are also automatically housed in the city's quarantine facilities.

Currently, the city only has three active COVID-19 cases and Gustilo said their continued implementation of health protocols has enabled them to manage their cases very well. (RTP/PIA10)
