DPWH, DTI provides access to industry, trade activities in La Union town

BACNOTAN, La Union Apr. 14 (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-1) in the Ilocos completed the construction of the Ballogo Bridge which provides access to the cement industry and trade and economic activities, here.


According to DPWH-1, the completed 12-meter deck slab of the said bridge located along the Bitalag-Quirino Road in Barangay Ballogo, which is also connected to the Manila North Road, is funded under the General Appropriations Act of fiscal year 2020 of the Roads Leveraging Linkages of Industry and Trade, a Department of Trade and Industry-DPWH Convergence Program.


“The infrastructure will provide better and faster delivery of goods and products to the local market and other towns in the province,” said DPWH-1 Regional Director Engr. Ronnel Tan.

Aside from the cement industry, the town produces different products such as mushroom, maratangtang (sea urchin) and diro (honey) which is being traded in the province.


Further, he said that the project will also ensure the safe travel of the residents and motorists from heavy vehicles passing through the Bitalag-Quirino Road.


“The shorter the travel period, the lower the emission of carbon dioxide in the air occurs which is essential for the environment,” he added.


It was learned that the project costs Php 15,700,000.00 completed in December 2020 by the La Union First District Engineering Office led by District Engineer Jose G. Ginete, Jr. which recently opened early this year. (JCR/VHS/AHFF/PIA-1)
