DAR-10 turns-over coconut sugar processing plants in Balingasag town

BALINGASAG, Misamis Oriental, April 23 (PIA)--The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR)-10  has turned-over two coconut sugar processing buildings in Sitio Labiong, Linabu, as part of its support and assistance to Linabu Agrarian Reform-Multi Purpose Cooperative (LAMPCO) in coco sugar production.

“Even if Linabu is a far-flung area, we are willing to come here because we want to bring a message of hope to our farmers that they should be given the much given support and services to uplift their economic lives,”  DAR Secretary John Castriciones said.

As part of the Convergence on Value Chain Enhancement and Rural Growth and Empowerment or “Project ConVERGE”, the P2.9 million worth of buildings composed of a processing plant and evaporation office, aims to boost coconut sugar production in the community and answer the rising demand of the product in the local market.

Aside from Linabu, DAR-10 also embarked on infrastructure projects for Misamis Oriental Eastern towns (MisOrET) such as Balingasag to Kinugitan.

For her part,  Linabu Barangay Captain Claresa Baculio thanked DAR                for the  project saying, “We thought this project would not push through because of the pandemic. But our DAR has really persevered to see it through.”

With high demand for coco sugar, LAMPCO, DAR and partner-agencies now eye international market to showcase Misamis Oriental’s global competiveness. (VPSB/PIA10)
