DA Bicol shares agri goodies thru Kadiwa Community Pantry

PILI, Camarines Sur (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) Bicol opens its doors to the needy Bicolanos thru their Kadiwa Community Pantry located just outside their regional office in San Agustin, here.

This is their own version of the Maginhawa Community Pantry as inspired by Ana Patricia Non who first encouraged those who have something to share and giving it to the less fortunate with the words “Magbigay ayon sa Kakayahan, Kumuha Batay sa Pangangailangan (Give according to Ability. Get Based on Need).”

The community pantries which started to mushroom in most part of the country is a “new normal” version of bayanihan, which remains evident during this time of pandemic.

No less than DA Bicol Regional Executive Director Rodel P. Tornilla led the opening of the Kadiwa Community Pantry, April 23, Friday.

The pantry offered agricultural produce, agri commodities, vegetables, rice, eggs, sugar, canned goods, grocery items and also feeds for chicken.

DA also added veggie seeds and seedlings in the pantry.

“The pantry is only a temporary solution to the problem brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. We are also giving away vegetable seeds & seedlings to encourage the recipients to plant their own vegetables & other food crops as this is a more sustainable way of ensuring food sufficiency & security,” Tornilla added.

More or less 250 people availed of the said free goodies, mostly coming from Brgy. San Agustin and neighboring barangays. (PIA 5/Camarines Sur,  with reports from DA ROV)
