PASIG CITY, April 24 (PIA) -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) recently donated an assortment of vegetables and other produce to community pantries in Quezon City.

Through its Civil Relations Service, military personnel handed out the vegetables to stakeholders of community pantries along the streets of Maginhawa, Matatag and Mahinhin.

The AFP supports the initiative and aims to help kababayans in need amid the ongoing pandemic.

It is also a way of Filipinos in demonstrating “bayanihan,” the AFP added.

To recall, the AFP has been actively involved in peace and development efforts in communities.

The military organization is now also facilitating development, reintroducing government services, and helping bridge the gap between local governments and communities.

The AFP highlights the importance of convergence, collaboration, and a grassroots, human rights-based approach to development.

This shows that the military’s role is evolving. While the AFP should continue its role of protecting the people and securing the sovereignty of the Philippines, it is also be open to collaboration with other government agencies and different stakeholders to bring peace down to the grassroots level. (PIA NCR)
