4 towns in Cagayan Valley remain COVID-free

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, April 8 (PIA) - -While other towns and cities in the Cagayan Valley Region have recorded COVID-19 positive cases, four municipalities in Batanes province remain COVID-free as of writing.

Based from the latest record of the Department of Health (DOH) region 2, the municipalities of Mahatao, Uyugan, Ivana and Itbayat registered 'zero' cases of COVID-19. Basco and Sabtang, on the other hand, have already recorded cases who were locally stranded individuals.

Batanes province remains to be very strict in the implementation of quarantine protocols in which all arriving Ivatans and visitors are required to undergo 14-day quarantine before roaming around islands.

In Cagayan province, Sta. Praxedes, which was the only COVID-free among the 29 towns and this city previously, has recorded its first case last week who was a Locally Stranded Individual.

In Isabela province, none of the 36 towns and cities was spared of the virus, even its coastal municipalities that were COVID-free last year were already infected while all of the 15 towns of Nueva Vizcaya province were also infected.

Quirino province, which was previously one among the provinces nationwide with very minimal cases, is now under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) following the rapid increase of cases in all of its six towns.

Dr. Rio L. Magpantay, regional director, reminded officials and the public to cooperate and follow the minimum health standards set to arrest the rapid increase of the cases.

He said LGUs are implementing prevention measures to contain the spread of virus, detection of cases through proper contact tracing, isolation of positive cases in proper isolation facilities, treatment of positive cases, and reintegration of recovered patients.

“Mild and asymptomatic cases should no longer be brought to the hospital to reserve the hospital beds for severe and critical cases considering that referral hospitals are now full,” Magpantay said.

The regional director reminded local officials to ensure that those under home isolation are in separate room with comfort room and area for dining to avoid close contacts with other family members. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
