Various gov't agencies pour support for coop’s cassava processing center improvement

DIFFUN, Quirino, March 18 (PIA)—Various national government agencies together with the municipal local government unit  here recently signed  a Memorandum of Agreement  (MOA) for the improvement of the cassava processing facility of the Dumanisi Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (DARBENCO) located at Barangay, Dumanisi.

The national agencies include the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and the  Department of Science of Technology (DOST).

The MOA was signed by DTI Provincial Director Ma. Sofia G. Narag, Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Jess Beth G. Quidasol, DOST Provincial Director Rocela Angelica B. Gorospe,  Municipal Mayor May G. Calaunan, DARBENCO Chairperson Angelino Navarette and DARBENCO Manager Cecilia Aduca.

Under the MOA, the DAR shall provide P300,000.00, secure FDA- License to Operate within one year from the release of fund and MOA signing and provide other assistance necessary for the completion of the project.

The said improvement of processing center is under DAR’s  Village Level Farm-focused Enterprise Development Project  or VFLED.

The DTI, on the other hand, shall provide technical and extension services such as skills, management, and entrepreneurial training programs for product improvement and facilitate the preparation of documents for securing the FDA Registration - License to Operate and Certificate of Product Registration.

Furthermore, the DOST shall promote the utilization/commercialization of identified technologies through trainings and other technical assistance, provide equipment support , promote and market the products through its  One Store marketing program.

Meanwhile,  the LGU Diffun  shall provide farm inputs and other support for farm productivity, assist in the improvement of quality of produce and sustainability of supply of cassava, provide financial support in terms of renovation of existing processing center, provide equipment, promote and market the products.

For its part, the DARBENCO shall shoulder the labor cost of the renovation/improvement of the cassava processing center, manage, maintain and operate the processing center, process and market the products, and source out, if necessary, technology and other financial assistance from other agencies for product improvement and innovation for expansion purposes.
