Vaccination vs. COVID-19 to start for Vizcaya health workers

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, March 6 (PIA) - The COVID-19 vaccination among health workers in the province will start early next week with the arrival of Sinovac vaccines from the Department of Health (DOH).

Dr. Napoleon Obania, chief of the Region 2 Trauma and Medical Center (R2TMC), said they have asked for 1,100 vials of the China-donated Sinovac vaccines from the DOH.

"We hope that these will be given so our frontliners will have their first doses of the vaccine. As of this date, more than 150 of our frontliners have already signified their intention to be vaccinated," he said.

Obania added that other hospital workers at the R2TMC are on a standby mode hoping to have a shot with the Sinovac vaccines and other upcoming brands of the vaccines.

He further said that a dry run has been conducted earlier as part of their preparations for the arrival of the vaccines and the vaccination proper.

Dr. Edwin Galapon, Provincial Health Officer, also said they are waiting for their allocation of the Sinovac vaccines.

He also said that 200 of the more than 700 health workers of the 5 PLGU-run hospitals in the province have initially signified their intention to be vaccinated.

"We are optimistic that the number of our health workers who will avail of this vaccine will increase in the coming weeks," Galapon said. (ALM/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
