Sinovac vaccine for CagVal's health workers expected to arrive on Sunday

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, March 2 (PIA) - - More than 5,000 doses of Sinovac's CoronaVac vaccines for Cagayan Valley region's health workers are expected to arrive on Sunday , Department of Health (DOH) region 2 confirmed.

Dr. Rio L. Magpantay of DOH-2 confirms that there will 5,312 Sinovac's CoronaVac vaccines expected to arrive on Sunday. (by DOH)

Regional Director Dr. Rio L. Magpantay said they have targeted 5,312 initial doses of the CoronaVac vaccines as the first dose to be injected to the identified health workers in the region in compliance to the prioritization list of the national government.

Under the prioritization list, first to be inoculated are health care frontliners particularly those working at the following hospitals: Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Cagayan; Southern Isabela Medical Center in Santiago City; Region 2 Trauma and Medical Center in Nueva Vizcaya; Tuguegarao City People General Hospital in Cagayan; Philippine National Police Hospital; and Batanes General Hospital in Batanes.

"These are the hospitals that are accepting COVID-19 patients as well as those with history of high transmission rates," Magpantay said.

He also added that they are now finalizing the program of activities for the vaccination roll-out in the said priority areas and after 28 days, the second doses will be administered to the first batch to be inoculated.

Magpantay also assured the readiness of the hospitals in the vaccination program, however, he said they need more training and preparations for the community vaccination in the event that other sets of vaccines will be arriving for the next priority groups.

"We actually targeted 15, 000 doses of AstraZeneca brand but since the Sinocav's CoronaVac brand came earlier, we might as well grab the opportunity to start with our vaccination program using the available brand," Director Magpantay said.

He said, if the vaccines arrive, it will be stored at the cold storage facility of DOH regional office and will only be delivered to the hospitals during the vaccination proper. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
