Sibugay Health Officer, Hospital Chief, get the first Sinovac jab

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, Mar 09 (PIA) - The province has started on Sunday, March 7, its full roll-out of COVID-19 vaccination implementation with the arrival on Saturday (Mar 6) of 579 Coronavac-Sinovac doses.

At day one of vaccination, Integrated Provincial Health Officer (IPHO) Dr. Ulysses Silorio together with Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Hospital (ZSPH) Chief Sherwin Bastero were the first two individuals to publicly received the COVID-19 jab. 

The crowd cheered and loudly applauded the duo while the vaccination was on process and became louder upon completion of the first dose of vaccination. Medical health workers and personnel of the ZSPH were inoculated immediately after the two. 

The two doctors said they felt great and relieved after receiving the shot and feel protected and more confident to face their patients.

“Praise God. Blessing ni, dili lang para sa ako, but para sa atoang tanan. Mas confident nako na muatubang sa mga pasyente, now that I am protected aning vaccine,” hospital Chief Dr. Bastero said.

“Fear comes from the lack of knowledge. Help us disseminate proper information about this vaccine,” Dr. Silorio said. “All over the world they are doing this vaccination,  so why be afraid? Above all trust in the Lord.”

The kick off vaccination was a success and is expected to be completed soon as the target 579 individuals (first batch) are vaccinated with their first dose. As of March 8, a total of 408 personnel of the ZSPH were inoculated with Sinovac. At the first day of vaccination, 124 personnel were vaccinated and 284 for the second day. Another batch of vaccine is expected to arrive to inoculate the rest of the more than a thousand personnel of the ZSPH.

Meanwhile, Department of Health (DOH)-9 congratulated the province for the best effort exerted to prepare for the coming of the vaccines  and the successful vaccination kickoff .

DOH-9 said, during and after COVID-19 vaccination, it is important to be reminded of the non-negotiable and strict compliance to the minimum public health standards like physical distancing, hand hygiene, cough etiquette, wearing of face mask and face shield.

The health department also emphasized, that at this vaccination stage, it is necessary to ensure that all those vaccinated know whom to call, what number to call if ever they have manifestations of any adverse event following immunization. (RVC/JPA/PIA9-Zamboanga Sibugay)
