Pangasinan PHO urges stricter health measures  as UK variant enters province

DAGUPAN CITY, Mar. 27 (PIA)  - - The Provincial Health Office of Pangasinan has urged stricter health measures among  the public as it confirmed the listing of three cases of the UK variant in the province.

Provincial Health Officer Anna De Guzman said the first case of the B.1.1.7 variant is a 27-year old male from Urdaneta City who came from Dubai and went home to Pangasinan on Jan. 28.

The second case is a 65-year old female from San Nicolas town with no travel history. She was confirmed positive on Febbruary 18. The two have  now yielded negative result even before the result of their genome sequencing result came out.

The third case is a 57-year old female from Umingan town with no travel history and was confirmed positive on March 3.

De Guzman said the quarantine period of the patient has now lapsed and is no longer  showing any symptoms of the disease but she will be brought back to the isolation facility for further investigation.

In an interview over Bombo Radyo-Dagupan, Dr.  De Guzman said the B1.1.7 variant is not  virulent but can easily infect people especially those from the vulnerable groups like the senior citizens, children aged 15 years old and below, and those with comorbidities to include  tuberculosis, diabetes, hypertension and the like.

“Ito pong variant na na-identify ay hindi po malakas na variant subalit ito po ay highly  contagious,” De Guzman said.

She then urged Pangasinenses to observe stricter health measures when going out and even when at home.

As an additional  counter measure against COVID-19, De Guzman said the Provincial Inter-agency Task Force led by Governor Amado Espino III has issued Executive Order No. 0027 -2021 to further strengthen guidelines on how local government units (LGUs) can respond to the demands on occasions like the coming Lenten season.

Meanwhile, due to the Umingan case no. 35, who proved positive of the  new variant, Mayor Michael Carleone Cruz encouraged  his constituents via LGU-Umingan’s official Facebook Page to strictly follow standard health protocols (JCR/VHS/PIA Pangasinan)
