P160M dev't projects set for 8 CTG -cleared barangays in CAR

BAGUIO CITY, March 19(PIA) - - Eight Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) – cleared barangays in Cordillera  are set to receive a total of P160 million- worth of development projects this year in line with the government’s whole-of- nation approach to end local communist armed conflict(ELCAC).

Under the Support to the Barangay Development Project(SBDP),   P20 million each will be allocated to    barangays  Bayabas, Buanao, Dulao and Duldulao in Malibcong Abra; Naguilian and Ud-udiao in Sallapadan,  Abra; Balabag East in Rizal Kalinga,  and Tamboan  in  Besao, Mountain Province.

For the P160M- worth of development projects, three are school building projects, nine are farm to market road projects, eight are water sanitation system projects, three are health station projects and one agricultural/livelihood training project.  

To jumpstart the implementation of the projects, the Cordillera Regional Task Force ELCAC during their first quarter meeting here on March 17, passed Resolution Number 1 series of 2021, endorsing to the Department of Budget and Management the request and the documentary requirement of the eight barangays of CAR for the release of funds to the province of Abra, Kalinga and Mountain Province under the Local Government Support Fund.

 Aside from the SBDP, the RTF – ELCAC also looked into the task force’s first quarter accomplishments and had a briefing on the Retooled Community Support Program.

The RTF – ELCAC meeting was presided online by Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security for Cordillera and Department of Agriculture Secretary William Dar and co – presided by Cordillera Regional Peace and Order Council Chairperson and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong at the meeting venue.

Dar expressed gratitude to the RTF - ELCAC members for their dedication, support and commitment to effectively address the CTG problem and also called for a continuing partnership in achieving the noble cause of bringing peace and progress for the people.

“We came into this task together in support of the government’s massive campaign to spur sustainable development of the rural countryside, especially in the barangays impoverished by the malignant presence of the CTG”.

“In the Cordillera,  borne out of the culture and traditions of the people, we seek  to pursue our goals and objectives by bringing the government closer to the people and actively participate in governance and community development pursuits that affect them”, Dar stressed.  (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
