QUEZON CITY, March 19 (PIA) -- Metro Manila continuously receives highland vegetables courtesy of the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera KADIWA.

In a report by the DA public affairs group, a total of 1,438 kilograms of assorted vegetables such as potato, carrots, cabbage, tomato were sold last week, March 11-14, 2021 at Valenzuela City, Robinson's Alabang, Star Mall in Las Piñas City, Jazz Condominium, Las Piñas City markets, and Luneta Park in Manila.

The steady supply comes from two farmers’ cooperatives - the Cabutotan Farmers Irrigators Association (CFIA) and Vegetable Flower Farmers Irrigators Association.

According to Marvin Suelty, President of CFIA of Mankayan, Benguet, since the start of the quarantine, the Department continues to assist the cooperative through market linkages and facilitation of their vegetable transport system.

He said the DA KADIWA Program provided them an avenue and opportunities to sell their vegetables during this pandemic.

“We are blessed for the opportunities provided by linking us to the market bringing our products closer to the consumers,” he added.

Meanwhile, Roanne Grande, Event and Marketing Officer of Starmall said that they organized Farm to Table AgriMarket mall caravan to introduce locally-sourced fresh produce and goods.

The event is in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and in support of local farmers and craftsmen to patronize products of Filipino farmers and those making crafts.

“This activity is part of our corporate social responsibility to reach out to communities during this pandemic. We are providing farmers and craftsmen free rental of the mall space”, she added.

The marketing arrangement is in line with DA's overall goal of ensuring food security and assistance to farmers amidst the pandemic.

This coming March 18-21, 2021, three farmers’ cooperatives in Benguet and the Mt. Province will participate in KADIWA at Mariveles, Bataan; Pateros, Bulacan, and Robinson's Alabang. (PIA NCR)
