J. Amado Araneta Foundation, Araneta City join USAID’s Word TB Day 2021 celebration

PASIG CITY, March 24 (PIA) -- “Ayos Ka Lungs?” is the latest multimedia campaign recently launched in time for World TB Day 2021. It is part of USAID’s TB Platforms’ social and behavior change communication strategy that promotes TB education specifically helping the public understands TB symptoms and high-risk groups for the disease.

Araneta City, through J. Amado Araneta Foundation (JAAF), continues its participation in promoting the eradication of tuberculosis in the Philippines.

According to Diane Romero, JAAF Executive Director, “Health crisis needs active participation from different sectors, an ecosystem.  We put health at the forefront of what we do.  This is why in Araneta City, our immediate community, we launched TB-Free Araneta City, in partnership with the local government unit of Barangay Socorro, Quezon City, USAID’s TB Platforms  and Gerry Roxas Foundation. We do our share to fight TB.  In this time of COVID-19 pandemic, JAAF strives to continue with the education advocacy. Kayang-kaya kapag sama-sama!”

On March 23, 2019, during the World TB Day Celebration, JAAF launched the TB-Free Araneta City Campaign for its people, partners, and communities it serves.  The campaign embraced a holistic strategy which includes public education, internal policy review and adjustments, and private and public partnerships for disease detection, treatment, and prevention measures.

In its first year, six rounds of free x-ray screenings and TB orientations were held at the Araneta City benefitting nearly 3,000 economic front liners.  Out of which, 43 were detected positive and were aided for free treatment.

The TB-Free Araneta City on-ground efforts were supplemented by various public communications on TB including the “Tibay ng Dibdib” storybook and coloring books for children and Araneta City TB-Free Infomercials throughout the year to drum up public knowledge, reduce the stigma and increase community engagements.

Early 2020, 100 percent of the TB positive cases reported in 2019 were resolved.   All the patients successfully completed their 6-month treatment, received their health clearance, and are back-to-work.

At the moment, though on-ground activities such as public screening and TB orientation were halted due to the Pandemic, information dissemination continues in digital format.

For “Ayos Ka Lungs?”, JAAF will continue highlighting TB information campaign materials in Araneta City for the whole month of March.  JAAF is a proud partner of USAID’s TB Platforms in the #EndTB campaign. (PIA NCR)
