CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, March 1 (PIA)--As the the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 vaccines are now arriving in the country, the Department of Health (DOH)-10 gears up for the deployment/distribution of vaccines to the local government units (LGUs) in the region.

“So far, sa atong gipang himo na simulation drills in CDO, Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental, all are successful, meaning to say limpyo na and naka prepare na atong mga katauhan kung mo abot na ang mga bakuna para sa region 10,” said OIC-Assistant Regional Director Dr. David Mendoza during the NorMin Task Force for COVID-19 press conference, February 26.

(So far, the simulation drills we did in CDO, Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental were all successful - meaning they are organized and our people are prepared when the vaccines arrive in region 10.)

Two hundred vaccination sites are expected to be established in all provinces in the region with the LGUs to assist in the dissemination and distribution alongside the DOH-10’s vaccination implementation team.

Three COVID-19 vaccines are now approved by the Food and Drug Association (FDA) for emergency use in the countryn- Pfizer, AstraZenica, and Sinovac - and more are expected to be approved in the coming days.

To get herd immunity, "we must achieve 70-85% vaccination of total population," Mendoza said, adding "whether rural or urban areas, vaccination against COVID19 is important."

Despite the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines, Mendoza emphasized that following minimum health standards such the wearing of masks, proper hand hygiene, and physical distancing are still the most effective way not only against COVID-19 but also against other diseases plus maintaining a healthy lifestyle.(VPSB/PIA10)
