Cotabato City LGU starts COVID-19 vaccination for HCWs

COTABATO CITY, Mar. 25 (PIA) -- The City Government of Cotabato through its City Health Office has started inoculation of the COVID-19 vaccines to its healthcare workers (HCW).

In a ceremonial vaccination on Monday, Cotabato City Administrator Dr. Danda Juanday was the first to receive the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine which can be administered to 18 years old and above. Meanwhile, other healthcare workers belonging to the age group of 18 to 59 years old have also received the Sinovac vaccine.

Juanday, who is also the visiting consultant of the city's temporary treatment and monitoring facilities (TTMF) explained that the city government targets to vaccinate 70 percent of its population.

“Ang target natin ngayon is 70 percent ng ating population dito, para magkaroon tayo ng herd immunity. Sana mabakunahan talaga lahat ng ating mamamayan,” he said.

Aside from the ceremonial vaccination, the city government also opened the COVID-19 vaccination hub to cater to its identified lists of CotabateƱos based on the prioritization of the national government.

During the ceremonial vaccination, Department of Health-Center for Health Development SOCCSKSARGEN Regional Director Dr. Aristides Tan disclosed that the city is targeting 822 healthcare workers to be given COVID-19 vaccine in the said hub.

“Sana, at the end of this campaign hopefully all those 822 will subject themselves to vaccination. Indeed, the vaccination is generally safe and it is effective, and it is still free so it is highly encouraged that everyone should submit themselves for vaccination. For now, it’s only for the health personnel, but eventually we will be rolling out with the different sectors of our society.”

Tan also emphasized the importance of vaccination as the best way of protecting each other against the threat of COVID-19. (LTBolongon-PIA Cotabato City)
