13th Iloilo SP enacts 42 local laws

ILOILO CITY, March 25 (PIA) - - The 13th Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Iloilo passed 42 ordinances  in year 2020, more than the number of local laws made in the 11th Iloilo SP in 2013 until 2016 and in the 12th SP from 2016 to 2019.

Of the 42 ordinances, 35 are Provincial Ordinances and seven are Appropriation Ordinances.

The Provincial Board held 53 regular sessions, conducted 40 committee hearings and passed 882 resolutions last year.

According to Vice Governor Christine Garin, the 13 Covid-19 related ordinances that they passed were the primary reason why they have these numerous enacted ordinances.

She also acknowledged the active participation of the members of 13th Iloilo SP despite the pandemic brought by Covid-19.

Meanwhile, 4th District Senior Board Member Rolando Distura considered the relationship of the members of 13th Iloilo SP as “very cordial and very productive."

"We have enhanced our ability on how to explain our ideas, on being sensible in reasoning out and on being careful in the words that we are using," Distura said in a press report.

He added that the members of 13th Iloilo SP are all "performance-oriented" and proof to this is 2nd District Board Member June Mondejar who has "zero-backlog" in his committee reports.

For Third District Board Member Matt Palabrica, he is thankful for being part of proficient and performing members of 13th Iloilo SP who are able servants of the people.

"I am very thankful to the cooperation of the Board Members and to the leadership of Vice Governor Christine "Tingting" Garin. Although we have different beliefs, principles, and leadership styles, we still managed to perform because we respect the uniqueness of each other," said Palabrica.

He considers the current Provincial Board as "active, responsive and people in action." He is also grateful that their responsiveness alleviates the burden brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.

With regards to their relationships, he said that in the scale of 1 to 10, of which 10 is the highest, he gives a grade of 9 to the board members. Inside or outside the session hall, they have a good relationship. In the midst of political differences, being a gentleman or a gentle lady, is shown to each other.  The shortcomings of a member are compensated by the other members.

"For the past two Christmas celebrations, we held Christmas parties attended by all members of 13th Iloilo SP," Palabrica said. (SIA News/Bert Ladera/JSC/laf/PIA6 Iloilo/Photo courtesy of SIA)
