Quezon LGU buys relocation lot for Runruno illegal settlers

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Feb. 19 (PIA) - The local government unit of Quezon is now in the process of buying a lot in barangay Boliwao which will serve as a relocation site for the illegal settlers in barangay Runruno.

Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management officer Alyson Padua said the 21-hectare lot will serve as a permanent relocation site for the illegal settlers who are still in the geo-hazard areas in barangay Runruno.

He said that after proper evaluation of the qualifications of the illegal settlers, only 37 families will be relocated in barangay Boliwao.

"These families have qualified because they are bonafide residents of Quezon. Other illegal settlers are not qualified because they are from other provinces of Quirino, Isabela and Ifugao," he said.

Padua said the relocation site in barangay Boliwao has been identified by the LGU of Quezon after a landslide during the height of typhoon 'Ulysses' last year buried 10 illegal settlers in barangay Runruno.

The relocation site in barangay Boliwao was also supported by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and its Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau (MGB).

The National Housing Authority (NHA) also pledged P50 million for the development of the relocation site for the illegal settelrs.(MDCT/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
