PASIG CITY, Feb. 21 (PIA) -- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) is warning the public against unscrupulous individuals posing as PDEA agents.

PDEA Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva issued the warning following the recent killing of two suspects allegedly involved in kidnap for ransom activities in a shootout with police authorities in Botolan, Zambales.

“The slain suspects reportedly belonged to the same group of men and women who wore PDEA uniforms rushing to arrest a man in Ususan, Taguig last February 4, 2018. The incident was caught in CCTV footage,” Villanueva said.

He also called on the public to report to PDEA through their hotline numbers.

“Maari po kayong magsumbong sa pamamagitan ng ‘Isumbong Mo Kay Wilkins!’ facebook page o di kaya pwede po kayong tumawag o mag-text sa aming mga hotline numbers 09953547020 at 09310278212,” he added.

According to PDEA, the incident is not the first time that certain persons usurped the identity of the agency to perpetrate illegal activities. The unauthorized wearing of PDEA uniforms, insignia is punishable under the Revised Penal Code.

The PDEA chief also emphasized that PDEA follows standard operating procedures in conducting legitimate anti-drug operations.

“Our operations are always coordinated with the local police and the conduct of search operations are always armed with search warrants issued by court,” he said.

Villanueva also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals posing as PDEA agents.

“I encourage the public to be vigilant and report to PDEA any similar incidents involving suspicious individuals masquerading as PDEA agents.” (PIA NCR)
