Pagadian City prepares COVID-19 vaccination center

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Feb 17 (PIA) – Pagadian City Mayor Samuel Co affirms that the local government unit is now ready for the COVID vaccination roll-out and fully supports the vaccination program of the national government.

“I encourage all the residents to be vaccinated,  the national government is spending billions of pesos for the vaccines and we should be thankful because it is free in our country,” Mayor Co added.

Moreover, the city government is also grateful to the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) for the #ExplainExplainExplain program which emphasizes the importance of COVID vaccine and the fight against fake news.

During the ‘Pagdu-aw’ or the visit of PCOO Secretary Jose Rupuerto Martin Andanar with PIA Usec. Ramon Cualoping III, officials appealed to the residents of the city and the different sectors including local officials, youth and religious groups to be part of the campaign on COVID vaccine. “The confidence level of the people on the vaccines are low with only 25% willing to be vaccinated based from surveys. It is important for us now to disseminate the right information in order to increase the confidence level of our people,” Sec. Andanar emphasized.

The vaccines will be expected to arrive in the city by March and the City Government is now in the process of profiling approximately 20,000 individuals from the priority sectors. According to Mayor Co the vaccination center and the storage of the vaccines will also be ready in two weeks’ time. “We are intensifying the information campaign because we do not want to waste the vaccines provided by the government,” Mayor Co added.

Punong barangay Imelda Azucenas who attended the ‘Pagdu-aw’ expressed her willingness to take the vaccine. “We need to be vaccinated to save lives and we should be thankful to our President for taking care of the health of his people,” she said. (EDT/MLE/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
