DOH-10 kicks off COVID-19 vaccine orientation for NorMin

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Feb. 2 (PIA) – In preparation for the nationwide coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 vaccination program, the Department of Health (DOH)-10 has started equipping the health personnel with the right knowledge and skills not only in administering the vaccines but also in drawing public support to the program to curb the virus in Northern Mindanao.

“DOH-10 is looking forward [to the vaccine] and already preparing our health workers and system so when the vaccine arrives, we can efficiently distribute them,” Dr. Ian Gonzales , DOH-10's head of Non-communicable Diseases cluster said.

In the past few weeks the DOH-10 has started training municipal, city and provincial health offices on handling COVID-19 vaccinations in their areas of responsibility with emphasis on community engagement and strictly observing the priority list "to ensure that those  who badly need it could be first in-line in the vaccination program."

Amidst disinformation/misinformation on the COVID-19 vaccination program, Gonzales said "DOH-10 is approaching the issue in a scientific and level-headed way in support of the National Inter-Agency Task Force (NIATF) Against COVID-19."

“Whatever kind of vaccine, they all do the same thing of triggering our body to develop antibodies against the virus like COVID-19. Regardless of the vaccine technology, it doesn't have the ability to alter our DNA,” he added.

To debunk skepticism, Gonzales explained that despite being a new vaccine, the technology used is no different from what was used in previous vaccination programs.

“We have a long experience with vaccinations, and so we are confident with this vaccine, as much as we are confident with the measles and polio vaccines,” he said. (VPSBautista/PIA10)
