DA pours P513-M aid to Bukidnon farmers

MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon, February 14 (PIA)—To help boost farmers’ production, the government’s Agriculture Secretary William Dar turned over P513 million worth of agri-machinery units and agri-livelihood support to Bukidnon farmers on Friday, February 12.

"We are here to deliver today, through Governor Zubiri, these farm machinery and equipment units worth P197.10 million, including the infrastructure development projects amounting to P315.2 million,” the DA Secretary said.

In Bukidnon, Dar said around 18,134 farmers and 1,145 farmer associations and cooperatives will directly benefit from this government’s help.

He said the P315.2 million infrastructure development projects include five units of Multi-purpose drying pavement with shed; one Solar-powered irrigation system, one Warehouse, and 20.41 kilometers farm-to-market road.

Also, the rice farming implements that consist of mobile rice mill, rice reaper, four-wheel tractor, floating tiller, hand tractor, precision seeder, walk-behind and riding-type transplanter, cobin harvester, mechanical thresher, and circulating dryer will help Bukidnon rice farmers to be viable, efficient, and globally competitive, he added.

With the farmers’ presence, Dar explained that the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) provided the P150.19 million worth of agri-machinery and equipment units, which is part of the P197.10 million fund of the Department of Agriculture (DA) under its Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF).

The Secretary, in his speech, shared to Gov. Jose Ma. Zubiri that the national government acknowledges Bukidnon LGU's significant cut in its budget for agricultural programs for 2021.

“We want to work with you to see to it that the farmers and fisherfolk, together with the Agripreneurs, will now make the possibility in unlocking agriculture potentials of the rural areas here in Bukidnon,” Dar said.

Inspired by the DA’s support for Bukidnon farmers, Gov. Zubiri thanked President Rodrigo Duterte, through Sec. Dar, as he said “We salute and give honor to President Duterte, thru Sec Dar, who gave us these farm implements with no delays and hesitations.”

DA Undersecretary for Livestock William Medrano, Usec. for Regulations and Infrastructure Zamzamin Ampatuan, Asec. for Media Affairs Noel Reyes, Regional Executive Director Carlene Collado and Regional Technical Director for Operations Carlota Madriaga also graced the turnover ceremony with the Bukidnon provincial government executives and staff.
