BACOLOD CITY, Feb. 2 (PIA) —The Bacolod City Veterinarian Office (CVO) vaccinated a total of 36, 878 animals in its rabies and registration campaign in 2020.

City Veterinarian Maria Agueda Trinidad De la Torre said the figure also represents the total number of dogs and cats registered here

She said the pandemic has affected the operation of the veterinary office because they had to temporarily stop field animal vaccination in the month of March last year, during the early part of the pandemic.

The CVO only resumed vaccination in November of last year upon the approval of the local coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Inter Agency Task Force, De la Torre said.

From the vaccination figure, a total of 36, 493 animals received shots belonging to 18, 470 clients, while walk-in clients totalled 385 heads from 207 individuals.

She noted that there is a dog population of 65,340 in Bacolod City as of 2018 and 56.44 percent of the figure were vaccinated in 2019.

Some 2,780 vials of vaccines were utilized for the period of the operation of the office  from the city government.

The types of vaccine used are Rabison 250 vials, Defensor 937 vials,  and Canvac 1593 vials.

De la Torre said the office still has 620 vials of Canvac available.  (JSC/Lljr/PIA6 Negros Occidental)
