Zero firecracker-related injury recorded in EV during New Year’s Day, says DOH-8

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Jan. 8 (PIA) -- For the first time in history, the Department of Health Eastern Visayas (DOH-8) announced that no firecracker-related injuries were reported in Eastern Visayas as the region welcomed the New Year 2021.

In a virtual press conference on Wednesday, DOH-8 OIC Assistant Regional Director Carmen Garrido said, until the last day of reporting, no one was injured due to firecrackers in Region 8.

“Hanggang sa ngayong araw na ito, zero pa rin. Wala pa ring kaso ng nasugatan dahil sa paputok ang naitala sa Rehiyon,” Garrado said.

Garrido said, they are very happy noting the success of Iwas Paputok Campaign which can be attributed to the aggressive campaign of various local government units, the law enforcement agencies, national government agencies and the whole community.

Meanwhile, the PNP Regional Command 8 has also observed a very peaceful New Year’s celebration with no significant incidents.

The strategic deployment of PNP personnel and maximized utilization of logistical resources with the active support of the community are contributing factors to the peaceful celebration, said Police Lt. Col. Ma. Bella Rentuaya, PRO8 spokesperson.

With the success of the celebration, Police Brig. Gen. Ronaldo F. De Jesus, PRO8 Regional Director, commended the concerted efforts of the PNP personnel who were deployed in place of convergence and the support of other stakeholders.

“With your unwavering commitment to enforce the laws, I have been confident that we can properly execute our sworn-duties,” De Jesus said.

A total of 6,551 PNP personnel were deployed throughout the region to ensure the safety and security of the residents, commuters and tourists plus 6,087 force multipliers. (ldl/cba/PIA8)
