PLGU-SoLeyte provides materials, supplies on modular learning to provincial DepEd

MAASIN CITY, Jan. 20 (PIA) -- The local government unit of Southern Leyte has delivered risograph machines to 23 school districts under the provincial schools division of the Department of Education (DepEd) to assist administrators in dealing with modular distance learning.

Also given alongside the duplicating units were 1,700 reams of F4 bond papers, computer sets, as well as other necessary supplies, according to Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Member Atty. Teofisto Rojas, chair of the SP Committee on Education.

A risograph copier is capable of printing 136 copies per minute, enough to cover printing tasks of subjects in a set of modules, which has been the current way of schooling in lieu of physical, face-to-face instruction in classrooms with the onset of Covid-19 pandemic for School Year 2020-2021.

In a recent interview, Rojas said the total amount needed for the purchase of the learning equipment was computed at P15 million, but the special education fund (SEF) balance was only P11 million.

Luckily, another source of fund was found, the unexpended past years’ balances from 2015 to 2018, amounting to P5 million, said Rojas, who also chairs the SP Committee on Appropriations.

“These equipment will aid our educators to efficiently produce modules and other teaching materials not only during this pandemic but for years to come,” a post from the province’s FB page stated.

“The governor gave an assurance that the provincial government will prioritize quality education amidst the Covid-19 pandemic,” the message of the post further said.

Public elementary and high schools under the Southern Leyte schools division cover the 18 municipalities of the province, excluding those in Maasin City, which has a separate schools division.  (ldl/mmp/PIA8-Southern Leyte)
