PH Red Cross inaugurates molecular lab in Passi City

ILOILO CITY, Jan. 14 (PIA6) – The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) formally inaugurated its 13th molecular laboratory in Passi City, Iloilo to further boost the testing capacity in the province.

Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon, who also serves as PRC chairperson and chief executive officer, said the molecular laboratory can test more people and help stop the transmission of the virus.

“Now you are the center of the whole island of Panay in terms of testing. I picked it because it is in the center of Panay,” he said.

Gordon said that the molecular laboratory, situated at the PRC Regional Logistics and Disaster Management Training Center, is expected to be operational this month and can process about 1,000 specimens daily.

“Lahat ng tao from Iloilo, Aklan, Guimaras and even Negros, you can cover them now,” he said.

The molecular laboratory is already equipped with machines and equipment and there are staff who are already prepared to handle the testing center.

Gordon said that the molecular lab may soon utilize the saliva-based COVID-19 testing, which is more affordable and non-invasive.

Meanwhile, Gordon also led the inauguration of the new PRC Passi City Chapter Building and the Blood Center facility. (JSC/LTP/PIA6 Iloilo)
