PCOO chief says P500-P800M Visayas media hub approved

CEBU, Jan. 19 (PIA) -- Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar said a P500-M to P800-M Visayas media hub will soon be constructed in Cebu.

Andanar said the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) through Sen. Christopher "Bong" Go "have approved the P500 to P800-million Visayas media hub."

Go had earlier discussed the possibility of opening a similar media hub for the Visayas with Andanar and DBM Sec. Wendel Avisado, following the inauguration of the Mindanao Media Hub in December 2020.

With this media hub, it will accommodate agencies and units under PCOO such as Philippines News Agency (PNA), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), People's Television Network, among others.

Andanar met with the Cebu Federation of Beat Journalists (CFBJ) officers for the first time on Jan. 18, 2021 to discuss key initiatives in transforming the quality of government communication and information services in the country especially during these challenging times.

He also thanked the media for their objective reporting not only on the current administration's projects and strides, but also the "not so good" news which reflects on the essence of a free society.

Andanar announced that he appointed PIA Director-General Usec. Ramon Cualoping III, who was also present at the event, as the chief of the vaccine communications campaign.

Cualoping said PIA will work strongly with the PCOO to accomplish the PIA's mandate which is media relations, curate content, and to make sure people are informed.

He added that according to Philippine Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez, the vaccines will arrive by end of February and that Central Visayas, Davao Region, National Captal Region, and Calabarzon are some of the priority areas for the vaccine dissemination.

PIA will roll out a nationwide information and education campaign on the vaccine roadmap as part of PIA's advocacy to #ExplainExplainExplain the policies and programs of the government.
