OFW in Hong Kong who tested positive for COVID-19 UK variant is from Solana, Cagayan


TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Jan. 9 (PIA) - - The Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Hongkong who tested positive for the new variant of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) from United Kingdom (UK) is a native of Solana town this province, Governor Manuel Mamba confirmed.

However, the governor believed that the OFW was infected with the virus when she already reached HongKong as all her tests before she left the country turned negative for COVID-19.

"She is from our province but before she went to Manila, her test was negative. She went to Manila and underwent quarantine and her test was again negative. But when she was already tested in Hong Kong she was positive so I believe the she already got the virus in that country," the governor said.

The provincial health office has also conducted immediate contact tracing and subjected all of the OFW's family members and close contacts to swab tests but they are all negative for COVID-19.

With this, Mamba again urged everyone to follow still the health protocols set by the government to avoid being infected with the virus.

As of press time, COVID-19 cases remain increasing in the province in which there are still 180 active cases including the Persons Deprived of Liberty at the provincial jail and the some police and fire officials. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
