MSSD-BARMM, BGH ink agreement to help indigent patients

ISABELA CITY, Basilan, Jan 22 (PIA) – The social welfare department of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and the Basilan General Hospital (BGH) inked an agreement on January 21 to help indigent patients in the region.
The two parties have signed a memorandum of agreement to set up collaboration in implementing Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) for qualified indigent patients in the Bangsamoro Region.
According to Minister Atty. Raissa Jajure of the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) is a regular program of the MSSD-BARMM intended to provide financial support to poor, vulnerable and marginalized sectors of society in the region.

Under this program is the provision of medical assistance to indigent patients within BARMM but not limited to hospital bills, medicine, medical procedures, dialysis and other laboratory tests.
Under the MOA, the MSSD-BARMM shall allocate funds in the amount of P2,000,000.00 to be charged against Emergency Assistance Program Fund and transfer the same to the account of BGH, subject to government accounting and auditing rules and regulations.
The BGH shall receive and utilize the fund in accordance with the objectives of the medical assistance program and terms and conditions also stated under the MOA.
Dra. Sitti Nurussamsi C. Amilasan, Medical Center Chief of BGH is very grateful for this program since this will be a great help in the hospital bills of Basileños.
“We thank the BARMM Government for trusting BGH and looking forward for this partnership,” Dra. Amilassan told PIA in an interview.
She also assured that under her leadership, the program will smoothly be implemented and in accordance with its objectives.

Moreover, the AICS program also includes non-medical needs of the patient during her/his discharge including but not limited to food assistance and transportation expenses.
“We will make sure that all indigent patients will have no out of pocket expenses once admitted at our hospital,” she added.
The Memorandum of Agreement shall be effective for a period of one (1) year since the date it was signed by the parties and their instrumental witnesses, except in the event of exhaustion of funds, or unless sooner revoked by either part for just cause.
