Imus LCE prepares for COVID-19 vaccination program

IMUS CITY, Cavite Jan. 25 (PIA) -- In preparation for the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine, Mayor Emmanuel L. Maliksi met with the local COVID-19 Task Force to discuss the protocols for the city's vaccination program, in accordance with the guidelines established by the Department of Health (DOH).

Mayor Maliksi said the vaccine that will be provided by the national government will depend on the assessment and result of the 3rd phase of the clinical trials conducted for specific vaccines, among other parameters used for the choice of COVID-19 vaccines to be purchased by the national government.

Maliksi said that in December, the national government had talks with the drug manufacturer Pfizer-BioNTech-- which was the only vaccine issued an Emergency Use Authority (EUA)--while the Tripartite Agreement of the League of Cities in the Philippines preferred the cost efficient vaccine from AstraZeneca.

According the the local chief executive, City Health Officer Dr. Randy Calingasan wrote to the Department of Health to coordinate for the provision of the vaccine for the city once they are available.

"The City Government has allotted an amount close to P100M for the procurement of the COVID-19 vaccines to augment the supply  that will be provided by the national government," Maliksi said.

"Wala pang abiso kung anong vaccine ang maibibigay sa Imus," the Mayor added.

(There is no advice as to what kind of vaccine will be given to the City of Imus.)

Together with the Medical Team from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, which includes Dr. Edison Alberto, Dr. Rachel Larencho, Ms. Hasia Ramiso, and the CESU Head Micks Mitra, Dr. Calingasan also held a meeting with the Barangay Kagawads (Committee on Health), Barangay Health Workers, and Barangay Secretaries to orient them on the protocols for the vaccination program.

"Nakahanda ang Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Imus sa pagdating ng mga vaccines para sa agarang pagbabakuna," assured Maliksi.
